Description
Kisspeptin, encoded by the KISS1 gene, is a family of peptides (including kisspeptin-54, formerly metastin) that act as key regulators of the reproductive axis. Originally identified as a metastasis suppressor, it binds to GPR54/KISS1R receptors on GnRH neurons in the hypothalamus. This triggers the release of gonadotropins (LH and FSH), controlling puberty onset, fertility, sex hormone production, and even aspects of sexual desire and behavior.
